Despite everything, the Panthers are respectably in fourth place in their division with a record of 7-4-1. Based on expected goals in all game situations (around 55%), the Panthers are a top 5 team in the league. I’m expecting a lot from Carolina this season. They have plenty of depth in every position and their age structure is optimal for success.

Solid two-way defenseman Brett Pesce will be a game-time decision ahead of tonight’s match. Even if he must sit out, the Hurricanes have nothing to worry about with Jalen Chatfield as replacement. Chatfield is probably the best D-man in the league who doesn’t regularly make his team’s lineup. Frederik Andersen’s injury should mean a start for Antti Raanta, who is every bit as good as his Danish colleague.

There is always potential for lots of goals in Florida’s games, even if we have seen some low scoring games in the fall. There is no reason to make drastic changes to views based on larger sample data and observations so quickly.
