Betting tips: Florida Panthers vs. Carolina Hurricanes 11/10

Two prominent teams from the Eastern Conference make for an entertaining match worth two wagers.

Panthers scratch points respectably

The Florida Panthers’ early season has been marked by several setbacks. Last season’s run to the Cup Finals is still taking its toll on the team with the absences of Brandon Montour and Aaron Ekblad in defense. Forward Sam Bennett was already back on the ice only to be injured again in his first game back. The Panthers have yet to play a game with their best lineup, and it won’t happen anytime soon.

Despite everything, the Panthers are respectably in fourth place in their division with a record of 7-4-1. Based on expected goals in all game situations (around 55%), the Panthers are a top 5 team in the league. The profile of an over team is still evident, with a total of around 6.4 expected goals per game in Florida’s games. They have struggled with turning chances into goals, which is why we have seen more low scoring results than expected.

Canes doing what they do best

I’m expecting a lot from Carolina this season. They have plenty of depth in every position and their age structure is optimal for success.

The Canes’ identity is crystal clear and built on puck control. That is why they produce strong xG statistics year after year. After the first month of the regular season, the Canes are familiarly in the top six in both 5v5 expected goals and xG in all situations. Five players have exceeded the ten-point mark already, and that group does not include Teuvo Teravainen, who has scored 8 goals.

Solid two-way defenseman Brett Pesce will be a game-time decision ahead of tonight’s match. Even if he must sit out, the Hurricanes have nothing to worry about with Jalen Chatfield as replacement. Chatfield is probably the best D-man in the league who doesn’t regularly make his team’s lineup. Frederik Andersen’s injury should mean a start for Antti Raanta, who is every bit as good as his Danish colleague.

Looking for a high scoring away win

There is always potential for lots of goals in Florida’s games, even if we have seen some low scoring games in the fall. There is no reason to make drastic changes to views based on larger sample data and observations so quickly. Over 6.5 goals in regular time stands at +116 on Unibet, and I expect this bet to cash roughly one out of two times.

On the team side, we’re going for Carolina’s +130 in regulation. This is a breakeven bet at +120, and the edge is even slightly bigger if Pesce returns to action. For risk management reasons, we’re staying on the low end of our betting range with both selections.

Tip: Over 6.5 (regular time) @ +116
Units: 3/10

Tip: Carolina Hurricanes in regulation @ +130
Units: 2/10

The match will be played on 11/10/2023 at 7 PM EDT.
