Betting tips: Calgary Flames vs. St. Louis Blues 1/23

It’s a tight battle in the West behind playoff positions. Tuesday’s slate offers a big matchup between Calgary and St. Louis.

Flames get their starter back

Calgary still has three home games left before heading to the All-Star Game break. Last week, they only won once, but that was a crucial win against Arizona. The Coyotes are currently tied with the Flames and Seattle Kraken at 47 points before Monday’s games. St. Louis is a point behind this group, so this is a big game for both teams.

The Flames received some fantastic lineup news late last week. Jonathan Huberdeau returned to the lineup and is a major addition despite having a disappointing season. Dustin Wolf got sent to the American League on Sunday, suggesting that number one goalie Jacob Markstrom is good to go against the Blues.

Blues looking like a bubble team

The St. Louis Blues have a much tougher schedule to handle this week. They head to Vancouver right after this game and then stop in Seattle before finishing the week against the Kings on Sunday.

Now that we’re on the latter half of the regular season, it looks more and more like St.Louis may end up on the outside looking in. Yes, they have a decent top line and solid goaltending on most nights. That’s good enough to book some wins but probably not enough to make playoffs.

As an organization, the Blues must figure out a way to restructure their defense in the near future. Justin Faulk, Torey Krug and Colton Parayko are all past 30 and they all have lengthy and rather expensive contracts. It wouldn’t be surprising if at least one of them moves before the trade deadline.

Flames clear favorites at home

These two teams may look similar based on standings. The truth is, Calgary is much less dependent on their top line and also should have the goalie advantage in case Markstrom starts as expected.

Almost two out of three times the Flames hold their ground and record a home win. Moneyline at -155 is good, but I prefer going for a bigger return with a home win in regulation. That is +104 on Unibet and the bet has over 54 percent chance of winning. We have significant edge, enough to place a larger bet than usual.

Tip: Calgary Flames in regulation @ +104
Units: 7/10

The match will start on 1/23/2024 at 9:00 PM EST.
