Monday’s best NHL pick is the high scoring Ottawa Senators.
Ottawa’s offense delivers
The Senators will start the final week of November in 15th place in the Eastern Conference. In terms of points average, the start of the season hasn’t been that bad. In fact, Ottawa is playing .500 hockey – they just have played fewer games than other teams. Looking at the whole conference reveals a surprising fact about how close it is in the East: Columbus is the only team that is below the crucial .500 average at this point.

The same as last season, Ottawa’s greatest strength is their offensive play. The top two lines are formidable and led by Tim Stützle and Brady Tkachuk. The goaltending game has also improved thanks to the arrival of Joonas Korpisalo. Today, Korpisalo is still day-to-day and may be sidelined with an injury. Franchise defenseman Thomas Chabot, who has been out for a while already, is certain to be missing from action.
Surprising scorers
Florida overcame a potential crisis and performed well in October and November despite injuries to key players. Now the team is essentially healthy and in a good position in second place in the Atlantic Division.
In particular, Aleksander Barkov and Sam Reinhart have once again proven their worth to this franchise. However, the Panthers have also received scoring from some surprising names. The most noteworthy is Niko Mikkola, a stay-at-home defenseman who has found a more offensive side to his game. Of the more experienced players, Oliver Ekman-Larsson has looked more like the prime version of himself playing for a new team.
Sens deserve to be slight favorites
The strengths of both teams lie primarily on the offensive end. Therefore, I’m expecting a high scoring game, the same as current total odds suggest. On the team side, on the other hand, we get to bet on Ottawa’s success.
In my estimation, the Senators are marginal favorites, even if backup Anton Forsberg starts in goal instead of Korpisalo. The betting market has a different opinion, with the Senators “Tie No Bet” standing at +110. There’s enough edge for a small wager until we get confirmed information about the Sens’ goalie choice.
